In this course, priest, author, and environmental activist Stephanie Johnson will guide participants through an exploration of the Christian call to creation care, particular environmental challenges that face us in our time, ways to advocate for creation effectively, and recognizing our experience of unity with God through our experience of the created world.

In the first session, we'll explore how Scripture invites us to consider our shared call to care for creation, how we have experienced God in the natural world, and various faith traditions' responses to climate change and other environmental issues.
In the second session, we'll briefly discuss the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and the impact of local and regional environmental issues. We will review the concepts of environmental racism and ecological grief, and we'll discuss ecojustice concerns and the intersectionality of poverty, race, and refugees and gender around the climate crisis.
In third session, we explore concepts of reconciliation, redemption and renewal as theological touchpoints for creation care. We will also discuss the concept of Christian Hope as a theological approach to climate change.
In our final session, we will discuss spiritual practices that will deepen our relationship with God and God’s creation. We will talk about practical and manageable individual, congregational, and community actions to take care of the earth. We'll share resources for future engagement in care of creation.
