GPL teaches teens skills that build toward the elimination of global poverty. It introduces participants to a website that facilitates microloans to struggling entrepreneurs across the world. Using church funds, teens decide where and how to loan the money for which the church has made them responsible. They learn to evaluate borrowers based (1) on what the borrowers want do with their business and (2) on the likelihood that the money will be paid back. When the money is repaid, participants re-loan it to other borrowers.

Adults advise students, but the students make the final call on how and to whom they will loan money. At the end of the year, participants present the work they have done to the parish, showing what they have learned and how they have used the church's money to do the God's work in the world.

This curriculum includes six sessions:

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to complete this course?
It will take an average group about 60-90 minutes to complete each lesson. There are six lessons in this course. You can pause at any time and come back. You can even re-take lessons. Each session contains 1-3 short video lectures. Also included are downloadable Facilitator's and Participant's Guides.

Who’s teaching this course?
Our instructors come from a variety of traditions, mostly mainline Christianity - Baptist, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian. They meet two criteria: 1) they are well-studied, even experts, in their fields, 2) they offer a moderate viewpoint.

Is this course downloadable?
Parts of the course are - the Leader's Curriculum Guide and the Participant's Curriculum Guide. However, the video lectures, introductions, and other texts are only accessible online.
