What Happened to Grow My Church?!

As you may know, I originally named the site ‘Grow My Church!’ to emulate Jesus’ Great Commission to go out into the world to spread the Word. However, too many people interpreted this as a 1) a co-opting of God’s mission as ‘my’ mission, and 2) connoting a self-reliant, empire building enterprise. I understand these apprehensions – and it got to the point where some people weren’t taking me seriously, and others were spending more time talking about the name of the site than the content of the site.

Also, this project is about transformation. And if I’m not changed by what’s going on here, how can I expect you to be? It became clear that the direction the project was taking was no longer emblematic of its moniker.

So I had a contest in December and Greg Swan, of West Bloomfield, Michigan submitted the winning entry: ChurchNext.tv We debuted the new name and refurbished site on January 1, 2012

I chose ChurchNext because our mission is to help build healthy churches by calling on those who are doing it. It’s about helping us prepare for what’s next.
