Mark Galli: Christianity Today is ‘For the Church’

Founded as ‘the Voice of Evangelicalism,’ Christianity Today is recasting itself as a media ministry, ‘for the church’ says senior managing editor Mark Galli. This comes at a time when denominations are more willing to cooperate – and the Church is in serious need of that.

I first heard about Mark from his thoughtful blog and books – and quickly became a fan.  In this interview he talks about the vitality and the challenge he sees for the contemporary Church in North America – and how Christianity Today is working to address them.

Synopsis
Mark Galli is excited by the service-mindedness and social activism among young people today. However, these strengths may present our era’s biggest challenges. Here are my notes from the interview:

Excited About Activism
A new generation of energetic activists who are challenging the status quo is reinvigorating the Church. Like Wilberforce and MLK, Jr, they are bringing the relevance back to Christianity. What an we learn from this?

Humility, Listening, Flexibility
Mark says these are the 3 most needful attributes of today’s successful church leaders. Being content enough to trust providence forms an almost irresistible witness for Christ.

CT eBooks
Finding a niche between short articles and entire books, look for Christianity Today to begin publishing eBooks whose word count falls somewhere in between.
